FAQs

  • What is a consult?

A consult is a 15 minute phone chat to see if we’re a good fit. You can ask questions and so will I. If we agree to move forward, we will schedule an intake. I will send you links to verify insurance coverage along with my intake documents. Please note, I only offer consults during currently available session times. If you need a different day or time, there is a good chance that I cannot accommodate it. If this is a concern, please email me first.

  • Do I need therapy?

There are two reasons for therapy. One, you are experiencing thoughts, feelings, or actions that interfere with life in some way. Two, you want to work on personal growth and change (please note that this may not meet insurance levels for reimbursement).

  • What is the first session like?

Our first session is an intake, where I gather your information in broad strokes. We will review privacy and policy documents. By the end of the session, we will decide on 1 to 3 goals. The second session continues to gather information while building trust and addressing the most pressing issues. All sessions occur virtually, through HIPAA compliant programs such as Doxy, Zoom Pro, etc.

  • How often will we meet? For how long?

Most clients start with weekly sessions of up to one hour. This consistency allows us to stay on top of the issue, problem solve, increase awareness, and for you to learn new skills then practice them. Once the frequency and intensity of your concerns decrease to a manageable level, we will talk about dropping down to every other week. When you are able to maintain this progress consistently, and/or when you feel like yourself again, we will drop to once per month for a few months, again to be certain that you maintain progress. Finally, we will finish therapy, although you can return if you need to. Some clients stay in therapy for 3-6 months, while others are in therapy for a few years. This really depends on your initial level of concerns, as well as how often you are able to practice the skills we identify as helpful.

  • How do I pay for therapy?

I am in network with many insurances, please see my About Me page and scroll down to view current companies.

Some clients chose to not use their insurance for many reasons: privacy reasons, they do not have coverage, or I am not in network with their insurance. In these cases, you may chose to self pay. I offer a limited number of sliding scale sessions per month.

I accept Discover, Mastercard, Visa, and HSA.

  • Will I have to dance?

No! Although I am a dance/movement therapist, most clients have no interest in dancing during session. That said, I may encourage you to take note of body sensations and perhaps engage in small movements (like rolling your shoulders).
